taking my own advice

b- taking my own advice after wednesday's post, i decided to don some patriotic duds in preparation for the 4th. and for such a special occasion i decided to debut a second earring style from our upcoming jewelry line, george & laurel.

d- truth time. blair and i get up every morning when most of you are still snuggled-in to snap a few photos for the blog before work. it can hurt, but we usually make it happen. except for the other day when i forgot to put the battery in the camera. this was the look that was to be shot, so i had to rock it twice in one week. interestingly people seemed to be more pleased with the look the second go round, commenting on the pops of color and the studded bracelets. funny, because i was planning on talking about lace and how much i enjoy it. 

so now you know, i like lace.

b- with fourth of july just around the corner, i have been diggin the british/americana themed goodies i've been seeing everywhere.  so i thought i would share some of my favorite items to wear to a bbq, bonfire, or sitting at home alone with your cats in the dark.  

everyone celebrates in different ways.

b- today i went for heavy contrasts.  animal vs floral prints, colorful fabrics vs. stark white accessories, and girlie vs. tomboy. it may seems like you are throwin everything but the kitchen sink in but the end result is a perfect balance.  

this also might be what pebbles from the flinstones would look like all grown up...

d- the hardcore americana look is not something to be taken lightly. it takes a concerted effort to pull of a not-annoyingly-over-the-top-USA!-look-that-you-see-in-amusement-park-lines-across-the-country. sometimes the more is more approach is needed, so i went for american flag on top and classic picnic table blanket down below. love it or leave it.

d- if i had been invited to the met gala this year i probably would have paid my respects to schiaparelli as anna, hamish, and karlie via jason wu all did. so here is my best shocking pink at 7am on a rooftop in downtown los angeles. elsa, i salute you.

b- these are two items i've been waiting to bust out for awhile.  and the day is finally here.  i made this brooch when dani and i first got really into matte paint and painted it in matte mustard...because why wouldn't you?  and then there's this glorious purse.  its definitely one of my favorites but requires something subtle like denim on denim (which used to be something i mocked people on the street for doing) to balance it all out.

i never envisioned bringing these two beasts together, but i'm glad they played nice.

style icon: solange knowles

b- so for our first style icon post i chose solange knowles because she is the first vision that comes to mind when i think of adventurous, confident and fun fashion.  she is isn't afraid of bright colors, bold patterns, man repelling and owns every bit of it.  when gathering images of her fashion i had a really hard time cutting any out of the post.
